Questions

Common questions before you call us

Answers on what we fix, who shows up, and how far we travel from our 900 Main St shop in Oregon City, covering the surrounding towns out to about 19 miles.

Do you work on openers as well as the door itself?

Yes, we handle openers - chain, belt, and screw drive - along with the door, springs, tracks, and panels. What we don't do is custom fabrication or commercial roll-up doors. If your opener is an older model that's no longer manufactured, we'll tell you if a repair part isn't realistic before we start the job.

How far from Oregon City will you come?

Our shop is at 900 Main St, and we cover a range running from close-in spots like West Linn at 2 to 3 miles out to farther towns like Woodburn at roughly 19 miles. If your town isn't listed on our service area info, call (503) 389-4705 and we'll tell you whether it's a reasonable trip.

Why do springs seem to break more in winter?

This area sits in a cold-moderate climate band, and steel springs and nylon rollers both stiffen up in colder weather, which adds stress right at the point they're already worn. It's not unique to any one house - it's just physics meeting a part that's near the end of its cycle life.

My house is from the 1980s - will you have the parts?

Most of the homes around Oregon City were built between 1964 and 2003, with a lot of that from the 1980s and 90s, so the torsion spring and track hardware from that era is something we carry regularly. Older or unusual setups sometimes take longer to source, and we'll tell you that up front rather than guess.

Do you give quotes over the phone?

We'll give you a general idea on the phone, but the real quote comes after someone looks at the door in person. A torsion spring job on a door from the early 1980s can look similar to one from 2001 and still need different parts, so an on-site look avoids surprises on the bill.

What We Do Not Take On

We work on residential garage doors, springs, openers, tracks, and panels. We don't do gate systems, commercial roll-up doors on warehouses, or fabrication work building a door from scratch. If your door is a custom size or a wood door someone built on-site decades ago, we'll tell you straight if parts are hard to source rather than string you along.

A lot of the housing around here went up between 1964 and 2003, with the bulk from the 1980s and 90s. That means we see a lot of the same torsion spring setups and steel sectional doors from that era, and we carry what fits most of them. What we won't do is promise same-day parts for an obsolete opener model from a house built before that window - if yours is older and the opener is no longer made, we'll be upfront that we may need to source a replacement rather than a repair part, which can take longer than the job itself.

We also don't do general handyman work. If the call is about the door itself - it won't open, the spring snapped, the track is bent, the opener grinds but doesn't move the door - that's us. If it's about siding, framing, or anything not attached to the door system, that's outside what we take on.

Who Turns Up

  1. Someone from our shop at 900 Main St comes out to look at the door

Not just quote it over the phone. Given how much of the housing stock in this area dates to the 1980s and 90s, most jobs are pretty recognizable - a torsion spring that's reached the end of its cycle count, rollers worn out from age, or an opener that's finally quit after running on the original hardware.

  2. Winters here are the cold-moderate kind, not brutal

But cold enough that steel springs and nylon rollers both get stiffer and more brittle, and that shows up as more spring failures and noisy openers in the colder months. Whoever comes out will look at the actual door in front of them, not just read you a line from a price sheet, because a door from the early 1980s and one from 2001 can need very different parts even if they look similar from the driveway.
